It is with immense joy and gratitude that we extend our sincere, heartfelt appreciation to our funders (sponsors, donors, partners, volunteers, etc.) for their unwavering dedication to the Fanikia Foundation’s mission; your belief in our work motivates us to pursue excellence and make a real difference in the lives of the unprivileged people through granting access to quality education, brighter futures, and community outreaches. The Fanikia Foundation fraternity is focused on enabling disadvantaged families to live sustainably, which has been propelled forward by your unwavering support and contributions. Thus, we are truly humbled by your commitment to our shared vision, mission, and goals.

We are pleased to inform you that during the past month, Fanikia Foundation staff successfully supplied reusable pads, notebooks, and pens to the students at Mtanga Delta School in the Pwani region, Tanzania, and reusable pads were delivered to the underprivileged female students at Mtangadelta School, Ruma village, Pwani area, Tanzania.

Around of applause to everyone making it possible; none of our accomplishments would have been possible without your invaluable contributions.
Our team ready to supply items to the students
We are grateful for your unwavering dedication and belief in our mission.
Our 2023 goals:
As we progress, the FANIKIA FOUNDATION is excited to continue embarking on its goal of supporting 40 students to complete their Education and 10 disadvantaged families. This support will enable the FANIKIA team to engage more and support unprivileged /underprivileged women and young girls, fostering a sense of belonging and well-being for them. Thus, we shall focus on new ventures that align with our core values and aspirations; hence, we still have big goals for the year ahead as we increase the number of girl children and women assisted. Sharing our journey with you will further our mission of creating lasting positive change in the lives of those we serve.
Success story:
Fanikia Foundation, having identified the challenge faced by the children it serves in their pursuit of education due to the lack of access to electricity, embarked on a mission to provide solar lights to these young minds. In the past quarter, solar lights were successfully distributed, which started a remarkable transformation as students were empowered to continue learning after dark as they did their homework. The students are so delighted that these solar lights have illuminated their study spaces as they expose them to light during the day to be used at night.
Picture of solar lights exposed to the sun during the day and to be used more during homework.
The students are very hopeful that their Academic performance shall improve as they can dedicate more time to their studies, and the students who benefited from the solar lights began to envision brighter futures for themselves as they are inspired by the possibilities that education could now offer. The Fanikia Foundation's commitment to providing solar lights to underprivileged students brightened their nights and pathways to a better life.
Thank you for supporting our mission.
We appreciate your continued support; your commitment to our cause has played a pivotal role in driving positive change in the lives of the people we support. Thank you for being an integral part of the Fanikia Foundation family.

Fanikia Washington Outreach work:

Also, during this quarter, the Fanikia Foundation has been doing important work in Washington state by providing vital information and education regarding covid-19 variations to African immigrants and refugees. Over the past year, the covid-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on our communities, that is, the African immigrants and refugees inclusive, which prompted Fanikia to work tirelessly to provide education and support. In this effort, Fanikia has ensured that communities are informed and have access to vaccinations, which is an accomplishment.
Our 2023 Goals:
This year, FANIKIA FOUNDATION'S goal is to support 40 students to complete their Education, and ten disadvantaged families will continue. This support will enable FANIKIA to increase the coverage of transforming unprivileged people's lives and fight the financial barriers that affect their lives.
We are desirous of creating a better world for the privileged/disadvantaged women and young girls; thus, still have big goals for the year ahead as we increase the number of girl children and women assisted. We look forward to sharing our journey with you.
Success Story:
ESTER HERNEVA MMARI of 14/4/2004 is a 19year old born in Siha District Kilimanjaro Region." My education was at risk when my parents separated, leaving my mother, Donansia Justine Kavishe, to take care of the family alone," Mmari says.
After separating from her dad Mr.Herneva Raimond Mmari, her mother took her four children and moved to Dar es Salaam to start a new life. Luckily, in 2019 she got an opportunity at Fanikia Foundation due to her family's financial difficulties. At this point, her success arose since, without the support, she would have been unable to continue her studies, despite her excellent academic performance.
ESTER HERNEVA MMARI is a student who loves school despite her many challenges. She has achieved good grades since her first year in high school. Through the support of the program that helped her, she obtained Division 1 with a score of 10 points in her second year of high school and Division 1 with a score of 17 points in her fourth year of high school. Ester hopes to continue her studies, and if given the opportunity, she would like to study medicine.

Updates and Accomplishments.
During this year, 2022, FANIKIA FOUNDATION carried out a community outreach to support disadvantaged families. We primarily focused on single women and orphan families, enabling them to live sustainably. Ten families received a helping hand in this effort regarding rent for this year, school supplies, and food staff.

In the fight to assist the unprivileged, the foundation sponsored 40 students, of which 37 were girls and three were boys, to sum up, the total. Eleven students completed form four successfully at Mahege Secondary school with four years of support from the Fanikia Foundation.
Another major accomplishment in 2022. In July, the founder and executive director of Fanikia traveled to Tanzania to visit the girls, teachers, and administrators in the Educate a Girl Program. During the visit, Fanikia distributed more than 300 Reusable Feminine Hygiene kits to the girls of Mahege Secondary School in Kibiti District. Thank you to all our donors, volunteers, partners, and staff for everything you did to make our work possible. We have moved mountains for menstrua equity and are so grateful.
Also, during this visit, Fanikia handed over more than 40 Solar Lights to the villagers of the Kibiti District.
In 2022, Fanikia partnered with other African organizations in Washington State to identify and support underserved African communities with information and resources for food, housing, rental assistance, and health care.
We are proud of everything we have accomplished together!

After a very turbulent, challenging, and stressful academic year for 11 students, we would like to congratulate them for making it through form four this year, 2022.
With FANIKIA foundations support for four years, Eleven(11) students completed their form four at Mahege Secondary school this 2022 and attained the perfect results that many students aspire to qualify them as graduates. Despite the challenges faced in Education, academic outcomes this year demonstrate how resilient they have been and how hard students have worked throughout the last four years, with this year's graduation. We are exceptionally proud of all the students and wish them the best of luck for their future. They have better aims and targets beyond this achievement.
Your Donations are critical to our ability to change women's and girls' lives; you can donate through our website www.fanikiafoundation.org.

REF: DEVELOPMENT REPORT FOR STUDENTS RECEIVING SUPPORT FROM FANIKIA FOUNDATION
Please refer to the headline above
Since 2016, Mahege Secondary School has been receiving financial support for food and other necessities such as mattresses, female towels etc. from the Fanikia Foundation. Currently there are 25 students receiving support where the second form there are 06 students, form three 08, form four 11. The food and equipment assistance has brought success to the students as follows:
1. Academic results have been improving.
2. Students have been in school for the entire duration of their studies.
Last year 2021 the Form Four graduates who were receiving funding from the FANIKIA Institute were 12. In the national examination results all students passed where four (04) students got Division III and eight (08) students got Division IV. Student LEAH ANDREA MAGULA who obtained Division III is currently in the process of finding a college to study Pharmaceutical Science.
In terms of the results of the Form Four Examination examinations held in May 2022 all 11 Form Four students passed with a Division II and Division IV. Two students did well in getting Division II which is ESTHER HERNEVA MMARI and ALLY JUMA KIBANDA. These academic results show that support from the Fanikia Institute has made a significant contribution to students doing well in their exams.
Lastly, I would like to thank the Fanikia Institute for the funding you provide here at Mahege Secondary. My fellow Teachers and I will continue to nurture and supervise these students to fulfill their dreams. I would also like the Fanikia Institute to expand the funding base to students who are still in Form Five and secondary schools because these students come from low-income families where their parents / guardians cannot afford tuition fees. For example, student LEAH ANDREA MAGULA who completed Form Four last year is now facing the challenge of finding a low-cost college because many colleges have high costs.
I extend my sincere thanks.

YAH: ACHIEVEMENTS ACHIEVED AFTER STUDENTS RECEIVING SUPPORT FROM SUCCESS FOUNDATION.
Related to the topic above.
Mtanga Delta High School is one of the lucky schools to receive financial and material support from FANIKIA FOUNDATION. The institute sponsors 15 students by providing them with food and other assistance such as `sanitary pads`.
I would like to thank the Executive Chairman of FANIKIA FOUNDATION for this great support.
Mtanga Delta Secondary School is the only secondary school in the Kibiti district located in the Delta area of the Rufiji River thus having serious environmental challenges as many parents live in the Delta (islands) thus making their children not go to school at all.
The school has two hostel buildings but is not occupied by students due to the difficult living conditions of their parents and thus inability to pay for food service. Prior to this support the 15 children (fifteen) grew up being homeless without having to worry about eating.
As a result of this economic crisis, their attendance in the classroom was very low, leading to poor academic performance. Prior to the support, the girls were having trouble with self-esteem, especially as they grew up in their day due to inability to afford the cost of buying a pad and thus not attending classes for four to five days a month.
After the food aid as well as the Sodo pad to bring great comfort to the students. The successes achieved after such support are as follows:
1. The attendance of these students is now very good in the classroom.
2. Their academic results are improving day by day, although not always, but they are beginning to give hope.
Example: In the results of the midterm test, one student scored zero (division zero), one obtained division one, one division two, two division three, eight division four.
The overall results are not very good but since this support has been available from January 2022 we continue to fight for the best in the upcoming exams.
3. After the help of the hygiene pads students were very happy to get the equipment as they could not afford it due to its cost, and they are happier because they will be able to use it for a long time.
4. These sodas have made them feel comfortable so they can attend classes all day of the month without hindrance.
Overall food aid and hygiene pads from FANIKIA institute have brought great awareness to these young people because they feel they can fulfill their dreams despite living in the harsh environment of Delta.
My request to the FANIKIA institute is to ask you to continue with this same heart to help these girls as the delta areas where the school is located there are so many challenges and the lives of the people in general are very poor. At this school there is no water, electricity, or passable road in the rainy season, in the rainy season people must walk 20 kilometers to reach the paved road, as during that time all the areas grow muddy at that time and so on. makes life as a whole very difficult.
Despite all these challenges, teachers as well as students receiving this support promise to fight as hard as we can to get good academic results, also to use this financial aid for the intended purposes and not otherwise.
My request to the institution, I ask you to increase funding for other students, as there are many girls with very poor lives so that they can also fulfill their dreams.

Dear Fanikia family and friends,
The Fanikia Foundation has accomplished another year full of success, without your support, none of this would be possible. I would like to thank each one of you for your immense contribution and support throughout the year to make a difference in the lives of these girls. Every day is a step forward accomplishing our mission.
Updates and accomplishments:
In 2021, the Fanikia Foundation launched our latest project – The Hygiene Project. Our goal was to provide 40 girls with sanitary pads. Not only did we accomplish this goal, but we were also able to help disabled/sick families cover the cost of rent during the Covid pandemic.
We are proud to announce that 37 students passed their secondary level, 2-4 of the national examinations last year, with the support of the Fanikia Foundation. We provided them with school supplies, mattresses, food, and sanitary pads, impacting their daily lives in a positive way. Supplying these necessities is a crucial step for these students, we believe that their mental health is just as important as their schoolwork. Children focus better when they don’t have to stress about their basic human rights, like knowing where their next meal will come from, or where they will rest their heads at the end of the day.
In February2022, the Fanikia Foundation partnered with Birds Eye Medical and hosted a free Covid vaccination event in Bellevue, Washington. Our team went above and beyond and we’re proud to announce that it was a huge success.
Our next goal:
To continue providing sanitary necessities for the Fanikia and the rest of the girls in two schools that work with. As well as we would like to continue supporting families that have hardships and disabilities during the Covid-19 pandemic. We will be supplying food to an orphanage in Tanzania during Easter, Eid El Fitr, and Christmas.

Success Story:
Hawa Mangosongo was born in Kibiti, in the Rufiji district, on 1/10/2001. She loves playing netball and aspires to make her school career a success, despite having family troubles at home. In 2019, Hawa was unhappy with her results, she was questioned by her teachers as to why her grades were deteriorating. She told them she was not able to continue her schooling as her father was no longer taking care of her. Her poor living conditions, distance from the school and unstable home life led to her inclusion in the Fanikia family. Hawa has overcome immense family difficulties but has not given up. With the help of the Fanikia Foundation, she has become an excellent student completing form 4 this year. She loves to read and wants to study further, aspiring to be a lawyer or pharmacist. |

Dear Fanikia family and friends,
As we start a new year 2022, I would like to thank each one of you for your immense contribution and support throughout the year to make a difference in the lives of these girls. Everyday is a step forward accomplishing our mission.
Updates and accomplishments:
Last year Fanikia Foundation partnered with a different organization in Washington state to provide support especially to immigrants who were experiencing difficulties during covid. Fanikia supported them with access to food vouchers, stimulus cheques, housing/rent assistance, utility bills etc. Fanikia is currently working with the ACA organization to support immigrants, especially youth to empower them financially.
Fanikia for the last five years has been providing resources such as scholarship opportunities to Young Immigrants to have access to higher Education which is one of Fanikia Foundation programs. This program assists US immigrants to strive for higher education by providing information about resources such as scholarships, grants, and other pre-college opportunities. This program was formed because immigrants have difficulties adjusting to the college education system in the US and therefore fail to enroll or graduate.
This program is vital because we can all agree that in today’s world it is almost impossible to live a financially secure and content life without a college education. Higher education for immigrants has a major effect on the US economy, society, and environment. We all know that a better-educated population benefits all citizens: improves the well-being of the population, reduces dependence on government, provides an opportunity for individual growth, etc.
Success story:

We are currently supporting 34 young underprivileged girls, 3 young underprivileged boys, 5 underprivileged families and 1 disabled woman. We support them with their secondary education by helping with school fees, boarding fees, including bedding and food, uniforms, school supplies and boarding supplies such as mattresses and suitcases. To the one family and one woman we give food and rent money.
Our long-term goal is to support 500 underprivileged girls and boys with secondary education by the year 2030. Our goal for next year is to support at least 40 underprivileged girls and boys. We will continue to support families who are going through special hardship, especially those with disabled family members.
Future Milestones:
HYGIENE PRODUCTS:
Our next plan for the coming years is to supply hygiene and feminine products to the underprivileged girls in secondary schools in rural areas of Tanzania. Unfortunately, menstruation becomes a source of stress, shame, confusion or fear for young girls. This is due to a lack of feminine products, as they are expensive, and unaffordable for most. Per our research and conversations with these girls, we found out that most of them miss school during the days that they have their period, because they fear they will embarrass themselves. This has drastically affected their studies and meant that some have finished school with lower grades, and they were therefore not able to continue with higher education. Fanikia is trying to improve the lives of young women through better menstrual health and hygiene.
SHOE DRIVE:
Fanikia is also running a campaign, BARE4BRIGHT, to supply shoes to our students. Fanikia has been blessed, and we were able to support more students this year. However, most Fanikia recipients, as well as many other students, came to school in January with no shoes. We are hoping to provide shoes to more than 100 students in the rural schools in Tanzania.
BUILD A STEM SCHOOL:
Fanikia is hoping to build its own school in the Kibiti Region in Tanzania in the coming years, a school that will focus on the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This school will provide students, especially young underprivileged girls, the opportunity to focus on science, technology, engineering and math over the course of their Secondary School career. Our goal is to advance excellence, innovation, and equity in STEM education for all local students in the area. A strong STEM education prepares students for high-demand jobs, contributes to the vitality of their families, their communities, and the local economy. We are hoping to create solutions and partnerships that bring STEM education to students, especially those historically underrepresented in STEM fields, like girls and young women, students who come from poor families, and students who live in rural areas.
This idea started because of a recent experience: A few of the girls that we supported and who finished their O level Secondary Education (Middle School) last year were selected by the government of Tanzania to continue their education in high school, under government sponsorship, because of their good grades. These girls were very good in science during middle school, but due to limited space, they were assigned to continue school with a focus in arts. Since they cannot afford other options, like going to a private school, they had to let go of their desire to study in a field of science.
We realize that this is a big project, which requires a lot of work and funds, but we believe the Almighty God will guide us and make it happen. It is our goal to make the tech field more inclusive, especially for women, to increase the number of women working in tech in Africa, and to accelerate women s representation and leadership in the tech sector. This will help dismantle barriers in women’s professional advancement, build pathways for women in key industries, accelerate women’s power and influence, and create greater innovation and economic opportunity. In Tanzania, the majority of students in science are boys, and I believe this should be changed.

NOVEMBER 2021
Zamlata Bakari Zomboko was born in 2004 and started Form I (Middle School) in 2017; she finished her four years in 2020 under Fanikia Foundation sponsorship. Zamlata lives in the village of Hanga, Mahege District and Region of Pwani in Tanzania. Zamlata was born in a family of six children. Her father left his family and her mother was not able to take care of the children, so she decided to take all her children to their maternal grandmother. Now Zamlata and her siblings are being raised by their grandmother in extreme poverty, living in a small house made of mud. Due to the grandmother’s age, and health issues, she has been unable work on her farm the way she used to, so it often became hard for her to provide care for her grandchildren. Fanikia learned about Zamlata in 2018, when we were approached by the principal of her school, asking to support Zamlata with her studies. Before we started to support Zamlata, she had to walk 1-2 hrs. each way to and from school. Moreover, she was not getting enough meals, because her family lacked food. Also, we were told by her principal, that Zamlata was a hard-working girl and was very good in science subjects. Therefore, Fanikia decided to support her for 3 years with boarding fees, a mattress, and other school supplies.
I proudly admit that Zamlata is one of the most special girls that I have ever met. I have personally met her twice when I visited Tanzania. She is a shy girl and is reluctant to speak, just nods and avoids eye contact. But she is just a wonderful girl and has made Fanikia very proud. She is proof that the donations, work efforts and the prayers we say every single day have not been wasted. Zamlata finished her final exam with the highest possible grade and so she was chosen by the Government to continue on to high school under government sponsorship. However, we were not that happy that the government offered her schooling only in arts, even though she did very well in science. But we there was no choice, so Zamlata had to continue high school with arts subjects. When I found out I literally cried, because I know if Zamlata came from a wealthy family, she would have been able to continue schooling in science, perhaps at a private school. This is just one of the examples of what these girls have to go through to make it, with such limited opportunities. Even though they might work very hard, there is still little space for them to reach their dreams and to grow to what they want to be.
As the Executive Director of Fanikia Foundation, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued support. Without you, these girls would not be where they are now.
God Bless you all.

APRIL 2021
Dear Fanikia Family and Friends,
Happy April!
I hope you are all safe and well. I would like to first thank each one of you for your tremendous support, and I would humbly like to take this opportunity to write to you about what Fanikia is doing.
UPDATES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Fanikia continues to make sure that disadvantaged young girls gain access to quality education in rural parts of Tanzania, East Africa. We support young girls with the cost of boarding at public schools by paying for supplies and meals, including uniforms, notebooks, shoes, mattresses, feminine products and food.
I am grateful and thrilled to write that Fanikia is supporting 36 students this year, 33 girls and 3 boys. Last year, Fanikia was able to support 23 girls, despite the global pandemic that hit us. When Fanikia first started, in 2015, we supported only two girls, Salma and Halima of Jaribu District in Kibiti Region. This year, we knew it would be a challenge to continue to support the girls and our targeted communities, amidst lockdowns and restrictions, but we did not let that stop us. Fanikia worked tirelessly to make sure no girl is left behind - and thanks to you, we did it! With your generous support and the hard work of our incredible community of staff and volunteers, Fanikia was able to reach this momentous milestone.
You might wonder why we include boys, since our programs mainly focus on educating girls. Fanikia decided to add a program for boys. While we face these communities in our daily work and get access into their homes or villages, we meet many people who are struggling to make ends meet. We have met elders, adults and children who are living in extreme poverty, and sometimes we just cannot turn our backs on them. Therefore, Fanikia will include boys occasionally, but will support more girls than boys.
Fanikia also was able to support families with rent and meals who were experiencing financial difficulties and living in poverty, while at the same time fighting this Covid 19 pandemic. The families we supported had children with disabilities and medical needs.
Fanikia is so proud to share with you the good news about our recipients who finished their O Level Secondary School last year. Fanikia girls were the ones who were leading with good grades on their final exams. This shows that when girls receive quality education, they can achieve a lot. Fanikia contributed to this success by:
In early February, I went to Tanzania for my brother’s funeral. I had not planned to go, but we all know things happen, the loss of my brother came unexpectedly. While I was in Tanzania, I could not visit the girls because at that time Covid 19 was at its peak, with many people hospitalized or dying. I personally lost more than five people who were family members, relatives and close friends. It was not advisable to move around, but the good thing is that the principal from the girls’ school came to see me, and we were able to discuss a lot. This January I had started a campaign called BARE4BRIGHT to help students who have no shoes to get shoes. I was running this campaign in Tanzania with my family members, relatives and close friends. Fanikia was able to get a few donations, but we had to stop the campaign. Covid 19 made it difficult to raise money because most families had lost someone close. Therefore, we had to suspend it. We are hoping to continue later this year.
PLANS FOR THIS YEAR
Fanikia is planning to continue with a BARE4BRIGHT campaign. As you know Fanikia has been blessed with more students to support this year. Most Fanikia recipients and other students came to school in January with no shoes. We are hoping to provide shoes to more than 100 students in the rural schools in Tanzania.
Fanikia is also planning to run a campaign called END PERIOD POVERTY later this year. Most of the obstacles that our girls experience occurs while they have their period. We have found that most girls miss school during their menstrual period. These girls and their families cannot afford to buy hygiene products, and so it is very hard for them to attend school. They worry about this lack of supplies, which leads to embarrassment and less concentration in class. I learned about this firsthand this month when I called the principal to check on our students. The principal told me that one of the girls went home sick because she had her period and no resources to deal with it, and so she had to go home for a few days. This is a global issue that needs to be tackled.

SUCCESS STORY
I would like to proudly share the story of one Fanikia recipient, Samson Balthazary. Fanikia started supporting Samson and his family in June 2020 with food and rent for one room. We learned about his family’s misfortunate in May of last year. Samson lives with his mother and his young siblings. His father left the family after his sister was born, who was born disabled. He was not ready and able to take care of his family due to lack of money, especially funds for the disabled child. Because of his disabled sister, Samson’s mother cannot work, as the girl needs 24-hour care. Last year, after their father left, their landlord gave them notice that they needed to move out of the one bedroom. We are glad Fanikia learned about this family before they were evicted. This family made our foundation proud, as we were able to pay for their rent for one year and provide food.
In December, Fanikia learned that Samson passed his final elementary exam with high grades. Consequently, Samson was selected to join a Public Secondary school, which is tuition free. Unfortunately, his mother could not afford to pay for the required school supplies, like a uniform, books, shoes, notebooks, school bag etc., and so she told him that he should forget about going to school. Moreover, as a boy, he is expected to start looking for day work to support himself and his family. When Fanikia learned about Samson’s situation, that he must give up his dream of going to school, we decided to step in and cover the cost of his school supplies, and we rented a room for him next to his mother’s, so he can concentrate on his schoolwork. We wish Samson the best in his studies and we believe that he will be a successful student.
Below are pictures of Samson and his family

NOVEMBER 2020
Dear Fanikia Family and Friends
Happy Holidays!
I hope you are safe and healthy.
I am writing to share with you good news regarding the girls that we have been supporting.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Out of 23 girls that we supported in 2020, 7 girls are graduating this December from O level Secondary Education, which requires 4 years of school. These girls have been able to complete all four years. I must admit that I have been shedding tears of happiness seeing my girls complete their education. I know it is not the end of their education, but helping them to make this huge step, we all deserve big applause. It is people like you that make our community a better place.
God bless you all!

Dear Fanikia Family and Friends
I hope you are all well and safe. I would like to first thank each and every one of you for your tremendous support, and I would humbly like to take this opportunity to write to you on what Fanikia is doing.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Fanikia continues to make sure that disadvantaged young girls gain access to quality education in rural parts of Tanzania, East Africa. This year of 2020 we have been able to support 23 young girls. Fanikia supports young girls with the cost of boarding at public schools by paying for supplies and meals, including uniforms, notebooks, shoes, mattresses, feminine products and food. Early this year I received 20 letters from the girls we support; the letters had great messages, thanking each of you for your support, and saying how you are able to change their lives. All the girls are thanking all of you for your generosity. Most of theletters include this message: “God bless you”.
Fanikia also was able to support families with rent and meals, who were experiencing financial difficulties and living in poverty while fighting this Covid19 pandemic. The families we supported had children with disabilities.
Fanikia was blessed to receive 48 Solar Lanterns from Remote Energy. We are currently working to ship them to Tanzania to our target communities in rural schools.
Just like in the rest of the world, the girls, who are recipients of the Fanikia Foundation, were also affected by school closures in all of Tanzania due to Covid19. Unfortunately, in most schools, the girls returned home from boarding school, but during closure, most students, especially in rural areas, could not get access to remote
schooling due to the lack of equipment for both teachers and students. Students in Tanzania missed school for almost fourteen (14) weeks and went back to school on 06/29/2020. Due to this unexpected closure, students will need to stay longer than they normally would in order to compensate for the time they missed. The students that Fanikia supports are now back at their boarding school and are continuing their education. They are trying to make up the time lost during the closure, and it has been decided that they will not have any holiday break until December. This change has started to affect a lot of students and their parents/guardians in the country, as they will need extra money to buy food and pay for additional expenses. We at Fanikia Foundation are affected too, because we need to have more funds to support the girls during this additional time that the girls are at school. Furthermore, this global pandemic has caused food to become scarce in parts of Tanzania, especially in rural areas, which in turn has led to an increase in food prices. We are hopingand praying that this situation will not negatively affect the girls’ studies.
FEBRUARY 2020
Dear Fanikia Family and Friends
I would like to first thank each and every one of you for your tremendous support. I am humbled by your generosity and want you to know what a difference we have made in the lives of these girls. Every day is a step toward accomplishing our mission.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
In the beginning of this year 2020 we have been able to support twenty-two (22) girls with school fees and boarding fees. Also, we have been to provide school supplies to more than thirty girls that include notebooks, uniforms and shoes. Most of these girls are permanently sponsored by Fanikia until they finish their O’ level Secondary Education.
Another accomplishment is Fanikia recipient Salma and Halima finished their O’ level Secondary education at end of last year,2019. Fanikia mission is to support underprivileged girls to be able to have access to quality education while pursuing their secondary education. We are proud that we were able support Halima and Salma with tuition fees, boarding fees and school supplies for (4)four years. Fanikia wish them the best in their future endeavors.
FANIKIA’S PLANS FOR NEXT YEAR:
Our goal for this year is to continue to support more girls with the cost of boarding at public schools and school supplies such as uniforms, notebooks, shoes, mattresses, feminine products etc.. Boarding cost ranges from $200-300 a year per student. Most families cannot afford this, and, due to the long distance to school, many students drop out. Most public schools are day schools, so students have to walk to school every day, and most of them live very far away, a 2-3 hour walk each way. This is the same distance they have to walk to fetch water. There are no roads and no public transportation from the villages to the schools, and the girls have to walk these distances through the jungle, which is dangerous and exhausting. It is unsafe for anyone, but even more so for young girls. That is why Fanikia has decided to step in. We help pay for the cost of staying at student hostels, which are located in the school area. According to the schoolteachers, staying onsite has led to good grades. Students who live in school hostels are more successful in their studies than the students who live at home.
I have been getting a lot of request from girls for support with these hostel fees, so I am looking for individual sponsors to cover the cost for one girl for a year (or longer), which is between $17-25.00 a month. We will provide our sponsors with pictures and send updates of the progress of your sponsored girl. Our goal is to provide support to 30 girls next year. Please help us fulfill this goal by contacting us through email [email protected], or give us a call @ (425) 247-5341.
Our next plan for this year is to be able to supply Hygiene/ Feminine products to the underprivileged girls in secondary schools in rural areas of Tanzania. Unfortunately, menstruation becomes a source of stress, shame, confusion or fear for young girls especially underprivileged/less fortune. This is due to lack of feminine products as they are expensive and most of them cannot afford. Per our research and conversation, we have had with these young girls, we found out most of them miss school because of fearing to embarrass themselves at school or in their classrooms. This has drastically affect their studies that has led to finish school with lower grades therefore not able to continue with higher education. Fanikia is trying to improve the lives of young women through better menstrual health and hygiene.
I would like to first thank each and every one of you for your tremendous support. I am humbled by your generosity and want you to know what a difference we have made in the lives of these girls. Every day is a step toward accomplishing our mission.

SEPTEMBER 2019
Dear Fanikia Family and Friends
I would like to first thank each and every one of you for your tremendous support. Without you, we would not have made it this far. I can’t believe it has been more than 4 years since Fanikia was founded. I am humbled by your generosity and want you to know what a difference you have made in the lives of these girls. Every day is a step toward accomplishing our mission.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
This year we have been able to support 11 girls with school fees, boarding fees and school supplies. These girls are permanently sponsored by Fanikia until they finish their secondary education.
Our second accomplishment this year was our Mattress Drive project. Through your donations, we were able to provide 52 mattresses to underprivileged young girls at the Mahege Secondary Hostel. It was a total success, as we exceeded our goal of 49 mattresses. Many of the girls had been sleeping on cardboard or foam pieces, and thanks to your generosity, they now get a good night’s sleep. To learn more about the mattress journey (from purchasing them in the city to their 3-hour journey through the jungle to the school, please check out our website).

Success Story - Salma
I would like to take this time to proudly share the story of one of our Fanikia recipients, Salma. Fanikia started supporting Salma in January 2015 with her Secondary Education. At the end of last year, Salma finished her 4 years in a private boarding school that Fanikia had sponsored.I met Salma during my visit to Tanzania in the summer (July-August) of 2014. I had gone to their village to see the farm my mother owns. Itwas my first time to visit that village. While I was there, I met a few young girls, including Salma, who were between 14 and 18 years old. Salma had finished primary school (elementary school) with great scores, eager to go on to Secondary school. But most of their dreams had vanished due to economic hardship. I remember asking them if they would accept going back to school if they had the chance to do so, even if they had been away for a long time. Salma was among the first to answer, saying she would love to go to school to better herself so she could help her family. Salma was one of the people who sparked the fire in me to create Fanikia Foundation. Because I looked at the conditions they were in, living in poverty, with their families whose houses were made of mud. I remember telling myself that I must get these girls out of these conditions so that one day they will be able go back to their community and make positive changes. Fanikia was able to send Salma to Secondary Education, and she was able to complete her four years as a Fanikia recipient. This last July I got a call from a Fanikia staff member in Tanzania, who told me that she had received a callfrom Salma’s father. He was thanking us for changing his daughter’s life. She was going tostart college in July to pursue a diploma in Hotel Management. I remember crying tears of joy because this is the vision I have been carrying for a long time: to see the girls we support becoming self-sufficient. I imagined seeing them working, and being able to help their families. The Diploma that Salma is currently pursuing is not sponsored by Fanikia Foundation. We wish Salma all the best in her new endeavor.

Success Story - Angel Mhada
Today we want to share the story of Fanikia recipient Angel Mhada. We started supporting Angel in January 2016. She is currently in her 3rd year of secondary school. She attends private school.
Her Story: Angel lives with her mother in Dar-es-SalaamCity. Her mother is a single mother and is originally fromthe Kilimanjaro Region, which is located in the North Eastern part of Tanzania. Angela’s mother was married to Angel’s dad, and they were blessed with a little girl, Angel. To others, this would have been great news for the entire family, but unfortunately that is not what happened to Mama Angel and her baby. It was the beginning of pain and suffering, because the husband and his family did not want a baby girl, they wanted a baby boy. So, for Mama Angel to gave birth to a baby girl, she was considered acursed woman and Angel was considered a cursed baby. At the time, Mama Angel was living with her husband and her in-laws in the same house. She was constantly mistreated by being beaten or refused food. She had nowhere to go, because her hometown was very far awayand, due to their culture of women not having a say or a voice, she had nowhere to run for help; she had to endure all these mistreatments. One day, baby Angel got very sick and her mother had to ask her husband and in-lawsfor money, but they refused because they didn’t care about the child’s health. Angel had to borrow money from neighbors, and she rushed her baby to the hospital. The doctor told her she was lucky, because if she had delayed any longer, Angel would have died. This is when she could not take it anymore and decided to run away with her child. It was very difficult for her to get a job, because most people did not want to hire a woman with a baby, but she did find a job as a maid with a family who accept her and her child. Later, Angel opened a small business of selling flour from door to door. This is when she met us at Fanikia. Mama Angel says, “God does answer prayers, and miracles are real”.
Knowing how lucky she was to find Fanikia who pays for her schooling, Angel is studying extremely hard. She is one of the best students at her school and recently passed her 3rd year exams with a perfect score. Thanks to our sponsors, she is truly a Fanikia success story.

Success Story - Neema
We want to share the story of one of Fanikia recipient Neema. We supported Neema in 2017 to go to Sewing School in Dar-es-Salaam Tanzania, . She did finish her studies and now she is current sowing clothes as her way of generating income.
Her Story:
Neema is from Kiteto Village in Arusha, Tanzania. She was raised by her mother but later on she moved in with her auntie at very young age because her mother was not able take care of her due to financial difficulties. While living with her aunt life was not that easy as she had to do hard labor in the tea and apples plantations to gain in income so they can survive at the same time attending primary school (elementary school). After finishing her primary education, she was not able to continue to with Secondary School because her aunt could not afford to support her financially. She had no other choice than continue working at the plantations doing hard labor all day. Her dreams to join secondary school were dashed. However, due to hard labor and moreover not able to be able to continue with secondary school she decided to run to the big city to look for jobs so she can save money and go back to school. She met a lady who helped her to get a job as a house maid and this how Fanikia met Neemawhile working as house maid. She told us her dream was to sew clothes, so we decided to support her so she canimprove her career by paying for her tuition fees for sewing class. She was able to finish and received her certificate.
Thanks to our sponsors, she is truly a Fanikia success story.
